Think Wild West with supernatural elements.
It’s the beginning of the Oil Boom. Ruthless capitalists scramble to be the first to put there derricks on the numerous oil fields scattered around the west. Towns spring up where there were none before, stocked with only roughnecks, criminals, orphans, union reps, cutthroat businsessmen, bartenders, harlots, and the solitary store owner and doctor.
This is a story that takes place in one such town, Brownwood. Except this town was a bit more notable than the other ones. Fortune shone on that lucky oil man who found that oil, because with it he found a town, completely deserted with buildings intact. The old shell of a town was already bigger than his crew compliment would need. He started shipping in his workers, but many of the superstitious roughnecks refused to go, instead going to his other oil towns. It seems that Brownwood has a bit of a reputation. So it came to pass that Brownwood became populated again, but with only the toughest roughnecks, all who had something to hide from.
